Chapter 24

"Hey, what's up Tianna?" Frankie asked, surprised.

She forced a smile. "Hey, is it alright if I come in?"

"Yeah, of course." He stepped aside and she entered his house.

"Sorry, for showing up unannounced, but I just needed to talk to somebody."

"Nah, don't even trip. It’s cool." He gestured his hand toward the couch, and she thanked him, taking a seat. He sat next to her, staring attentively.

"What's the matter?"

She took a deep breath. "It's Damien."

"What's going on?" He frowned, concerned.

"It's just...I don't know what's going on with him lately. He's not the same. Lately, he's just been really angry, and he's drinking a lot more. He barely even talks to me..." Her voice quivering, she swallowed the lump in her throat. "I don't know what it is, I don't know if he just doesn't love me anymore and he wants out or..." She broke down crying.

"No, no, that's not it at all." He brought her into a hug, as she sobbed on his chest.

"I don't think he loves me anymore."

"That's not true."

"No, I could see it in his eyes. There's nothing there. I don't know what to do." Her insides trembled the more she spoke. She couldn't deal with the thought of Damien not loving her anymore. She would die.

"Maybe he's just stressed," he reasoned.

"About what though?"

"I don't know. Maybe it's just something we're not seeing."

"Is there someone else?" She looked up at him.

"What?"

She pulled away with a glare. "Is he cheating on me? I know you would know.”

"No, he's not cheating on you. I've known Damien since we was in diapers, and I'm telling you right now, that fool's in love with you. In fact, he's crazy about you," he voiced in a fervent tone.

Although his words should've brought her comfort, they didn't. Instead, her mind raced with thoughts, her leg shook restlessly, her tears wouldn't stop running. She just couldn't pull herself together no matter how much she tried.

"I don't know what I would do if he were to ever leave me," she whispered.

"Don't talk like that," he said softly.

"No, I mean it. I love him too much..."

"You want me to talk to him?"

"Could you? You're the only one I know who could get through to him."

He nodded. "Alright. Where's he now?"

"At home."

"Alright, c'mon."
